Bianca Elgar was established in 2015 with the aim of merging classic elegance and modern art to create a versatile collection that encourages the wearer to have fun with fashion.

At the heart of the brand are our signature silk scarves and the infinite styling opportunities they provide.

Our dresses are designed with discreet neckline loops that allow for wearing as they are, or paired with our scarves.

Bianca Elgar is proudly British and we work with suppliers and craftsmen from all over the country. From our silk supplier in Macclesfield to our modal jersey that is knitted and dyed in Leicester, we have sought out the best providers for our collection.

All scarves are made using the highest quality silk with deep ink penetration that shows off the vivid colours and print designs on both sides of the scarf. The highest quality fabrics are used and finished by hand.

Bianca’s background in screen-printing and her lifelong passion for expressing creativity and individuality are the driving forces behind the brand.

Bianca creates unique pieces of wearable art that can be paired with versatile, comfortable clothing of the highest quality.

// INTERVIEW with Bianca, Founder of Bianca Elgar

We create unique pieces of wearable art that can be paired with versatile, comfortable clothing of the highest quality.

1.where do you seek inspiration for your collections?

At home and abroad.

The Asmolean Collection was inspired by my visits to the Asmolean Museum here in Oxford and modern Art. There, a silk Kimono is on display at the Ashmolean, in perfect condition after more than a hundred years old.

It is as beautiful on the inside, as it is out the outside.

The “Out of Africa” collection was inspired by a trip to Marrakesh, where I was exposed to vibrant colours and African cultural themes, such as African masks and shields.

2.which one is your favourite piece from your collection and why?

From the latest collection, my favourite print is the “Men” from the “Out of Africa” collection, I love the vibrant colours and the faces on the “masks”.

I wear our new skinny scarves the most. I like wearing them tied together as a necklace or individually as a belt or in my hair. The three sided skinny scarf is the most versatile scarf I’ve created, absolutely great for when I cannot make up my mind which touch of colour I want to wear.

3.When you are creating a piece or a collection, how does the process work?

For the prints, I always say: “I dream my designs, then I print my dreams.”

Basically, I have a lot of ideas in my head, I think them through, research them to find a theme, draw them, put them on silkscreens, take lots of prints and then choose the ones I like the best.

Furthermore, there are days when the process works like alchemy, sometimes less so, but it is always exciting!

For the fashion collections, I want the items to be as versatile and timeless as possible, to be part of our versatile capsule wardrobe.

4. How did you get into designing scarves?

In 2011, I went to live abroad for 6 months and decided to travel light keeping clothes to a minimum, due to limited space. I decided on my favourite black basics, and a variety of colourful scarves to dress them up with. I was inspired by the opportunity of creating a variety of looks with just a few items as well as showing off scarf prints in a new way.

5.What are some creative ways to tie scarves?

Have a look at our styling videos! The neckline loops on our Ava tunic dress allow scarves can be tied onto or threaded through the loops and styled with ease, which provides infinite styling options.

6. If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?

Probably not as happy as being a designer.

7.Your favorite moment of the day?

The moment I step out of my studio after I’ve created something totally unexpected.
