Kaliber Fashion Berlin

The young urban label was launched in 2011 by the designer Sarah Jolitz in Berlin.

The first collections were created with the idea to design sporty elegant bags and accessories, natural, modern and style-conscious women.

Contrasts in the design, high-quality fine fabrics in combination with a purist, casual shapes are the characteristics of this innovative label.

The products are designed in Berlin and in limited quantities.  High quality, sustainability and longevity are therefore essential at Kaliber fashion.

We always strive to ensure maximum comfort.

Mass production and unlimited consumption is not an alternative for Kaliber Fashion. Instead, attention is paid to a fair trade, as well as a predominantly vegan production, which should contribute to the general awareness of sustainability.

// INTERVIEW with Sarah Jolitz, Founder

Natural shapes & colors
are pure beauty to me

1.Where do you seek inspiration for your collections?

I always feel most inspired when I am surrounded by nature. Natural shapes and colors are pure beauty to me and seem to be perfect. Nature gives me the space and the calmness to relax and to free my mind, to be able to have new ideas.

2.Which one is your favourite piece from your collection and why?

Actually, I love all my pieces, because I like variety from time to time, that is why I designed these backpacks and bags with a timeless but modern touch. But if I really have to pick one out, it probably would be the black “love & soul” backpack, which was the first one I created. Its classic appearance suits every outfit, independent of season and style.

3. When you are creating a piece or a collection, how does the process work?

I always have a bunch of ideas scribbled in different sketchbooks or on pieces of paper. The first and the hardest step is to figure out what is the best and the most beautiful idea.

If I have a shortlist of that, I transform these ideas in real bags, to be able to decide better, which of those prototypes will be a part of the next collection.
Next step is the search for the solid, eco friendly material in the right color. Finally, when color and shape is 100 % sure and the material is tested, a limited collection will be produced.
It all results in two kaliber collections. The `seasonal collection`, that includes items in seasonal colors and the `classic collection` where you will find all time favorites.

4.How did you get into designing bags?

In winter 2013, I was given a few meters of fabric that remained in the storage of an Berlin fashion label, where I used to work as an assistance. That was 2 years after I finished my studies in fashion design in Berlin. Out of this given fabric I sewed the first backpacks for myself and for my friends and family. Everyone liked these prototypes so much, that I decided to found a label. During my studies I created a profile on a designers platform and I called it Kaliber Berlin. Then later, Kaliberfashion Berlin was born.

5.If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?

I would either be a dancer or a marine biologist.

6. Your favourite moment of the day?

My favorite moment of the day is when I relax with my little family in the afternoon
