1. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Actually our backgrounds are not in fashion design. Angga is musician and Cecile is photographer. We do however both have big interests for fashion and also love art.

For our first collection we’ve let the Indonesian batik art inspire us. This is visible in the prints on the lining and engravings in the leather. Other than that our daily lives are a big inspiration for us too.

We find it very important that our designs are ‘wearable’ and handy when used in daily life.

2. How would you describe your designs?

High quality, sustainable, elegant, unique.

3. How did you get into designing bags?

We were both struggling to find a bag that we really loved.

We both wanted a bag that would last long, be handy in use and at the same time looked elegant. Making our own bags and eventually creating a whole collection was obvious to us.

The next step was to choose a vegetable tanned leather interesting for its structure and also for its sustainable character.

Next to that Indonesia has some amazing leather manufacturers to work with.

We personally visit the workshop we collaborate with in Yogyakarta each time we have new designs and have built a good relationship with our artisans.

4. Which one is your favourite piece from your collection and why?

Angga: My favorite pieces are Rama and Purnama.

Rama really makes a statement with its rectangular shape. I especially like the cognac version with engravings in the upper part. The engravings are based on batik motives and I love how these traditional patterns now come back in a backpack used in contemporary life.

Also our Rama bag is popular by both men and women, that’s also something I really like about this bag. And then Purnama, this little round coin purse is our latest design. Its round shape makes it simple, but different and elegant.

Its small size makes it easy to bring anywhere. It holds a lot with pockets on the upper and bottom side of the wallet. So, it’s really very practical.

Cecile: My favorite pieces are Shinta and also Lovina. Shinta is such a nice bag to use in daily life. Not too big, but still big enough to bring your essentials and be organised. I use this bag a lot myself.

And next to that I also really like the look of; elegant but casual. And also I love the leather, it’s very strong but still flexible.

And then our Lovina wallet, I also use this wallet every day, because it is so practical to use with many compartments inside. I use it as a wallet inside my bag. But often I also use it as a purse when I don’t need to bring much.
So for me it makes the perfect accessory.

5. When you are creating a piece or a collection, how does the process work?

We both give input on what style we like and what ideas we have. This is an ongoing process as ideas can come anytime, anywhere.

When we want to make a new collection we get all the ideas together. Then, we pick the ones we like best. Angga does the drawing. He makes sketches and drawings of the bags and wallets we have in mind. He also usually makes a paper version, to get a good idea of the sizes.

Then we discuss the designs with the artisans we work with in Yogyakarta, Java and we source the leather and accessories, like zippers etc.

Once all is complete we will ask Simbah, one of the artisans we work with, to make a sample and when we have both agreed on the sample Simbah will explain the design and process to the other artisans in the workshop and we will start the production.

My favourite moment of the day:
We really enjoy working together each day, but still our favourite moments are probably late afternoons after work, when we can enjoy one of the beautiful Bali sunsets together.
