Tanja is the creative mind and driving force behind Tahti bags & accessories.
She studied fashion design at the FH Trier and then illustration in the Ruhr area.
She combines her love of timeless & simple, graphic patterns and shapes with her passion for crafts.
I love the variety in the studio everyday: from the selection of new materials on the production of sample collections through to press work – there is always exciting!
Inspiration comes from everywhere – sometimes I fall in love with a
pattern or a combination of colors I see somewhere. I see something on the
street, in a magazine or in a movie and then I don’t get it out of my head
for weeks. That’s the moment when I know I have to do something with it.
I try my best to stay attentive and open – if you try to hard, inspiration goes
hiding. Give it a chance to find you!
At the moment it’s the „TIHWA ETHNO“ shopper bag.
It just matches my favourite pair of stonewashed jeans and brown leather
shoes perfectly and is offering enough space for all the important things 😉
I’ve found out that I need a little bit of structure in my work routine to not
get lost inside my creative chaos. I’m collecting inspiration and ideas for
new designs constantly. Two times a year I pick the best ones out of it to
create a new collection.
Sometimes it happens to me, that in practice my ideas don’t work out the
way I was thinking they’ll do. Then I really have a damn hard time to let
go and start with something new.
But it in the end it was never the big catastrophe it appeared to me in the
beginning – in fact some of my best-selling products were born like this!
For me it’s the perfect combination of designing and crafting.
I like the fact that I can do everything myself – from the first rough design sketches
until the actual making of the bags.
And I wanted to create something that is not only pretty but handy, too.
What could be more handy in everyday life then a bag?
I’ve always been hiding from this question all my life 😉
Having a little break outside in the park after a busy morning.
And then going back to work with a fresh and clear mind!
